Join us for Rosewell: Architectural Dream, a special program exploring the architecture and legacy of one of Gloucester’s most remarkable historic landmarks.
Sunday, October 25 at 2 p.m.
Abingdon Episcopal Church
The program will be presented by Mark J. Wenger, AIA, architect and architectural historian, whose career has been dedicated to the study and preservation of historic American architecture.
A native of historic St. Francisville, Louisiana, Mark earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana School of Architecture, becoming the school’s first student to concentrate in historic preservation. He later came to Virginia to pursue graduate studies in architecture and architectural history under Frederick Doveton Nichols. His academic work focused on American architecture of the colonial and Early Republic periods, particularly in the Mid-Atlantic and South.
Mark began his architectural career in Norfolk before joining the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, where he served for more than 32 years. During his time with the Foundation, first as an architect and later as Director of Facilities and Planning, he contributed to the design, construction, preservation, and restoration of numerous historic structures. His expertise also took him beyond Williamsburg through projects undertaken nationally on behalf of the Foundation.
Come discover Rosewell through the eyes of an architectural historian and gain a deeper appreciation for the vision, design, and history behind this extraordinary piece of Gloucester’s past.
This program is hosted by the Gloucester Historical Society and is open to the public.
