Glimpse of the Past: African American History

Join us for an engaging discussion that brings to life the African American people, places, and experiences that helped shape our community. This program will trace the development of African American life in Gloucester, highlighting the central role of religion, the struggles to secure education and create new opportunities, and the rise of local business ventures.

The program will also explore the Black-owned businesses and homes once located near the Courthouse Circle and along Lemon Lane, showcase selected landmarks and Heritage Trail sites, and highlight notable individuals whose stories and contributions are a vital part of Gloucester’s history.
